U2 tribute busker plans world tour
A busker is planning to shadow Irish rock band U2 on their next world tour by performing his one-man show in every city.
Derek Power, who fronts Dublin tribute band Vertigo, is also looking for a TV crew to screen his efforts.
U2, which recently released 3D concert movie U23D, are due to launch their new album this Autumn and embark on a 12-month world tour afterwards.
Mr Power has just returned from Japan where he participated in the St Patrick's Day Parade.
He said: "U2 are releasing their new album around October which means they will start touring the following March.
"I plan on busking or playing in a pub in the same city where U2 will be performing at that time, so basically it's a U2 tribute busking world tour!"
The musical journey is likely to take Mr Power to the USA for a total of six months, two months in Europe and two months in South America, Asia, Australia and New Zealand.
Mr Power will be singing U2 hits using backing tracks on a suitcase-sized sound system. He aims to use the gigs to fund his massive transport, accommodation and food costs.
He said: "I'm also putting an appeal out for a documentary crew to follow me."
He joked: "Or if Led Zeppelin or Dicky Rock aren't using their tour bus, I'd be very grateful to have a lend of it."
