Interview: Lindi Mngaza

What was your proudest moment during your time on The Apprentice?

It's got to be my 24-hour hotline. I felt like the village idiot watching it; how hilarious! I think that was more of a lowlight really, but you've got to learn to laugh at yourself. And it wasn't even my idea; I was just the village idiot who decided to talk about it. But from now on I'm never going to use a launderette that hasn't got a 24-hour hotline. So there.

Are you disappointed that you didn't get to prove yourself as a project manager?

Yeah! I would have been wicked! I'm really sad that I didn't get to be project manager and show my management skills, show that I'm an all-rounder and that I can do a lot. My management style is very straightforward; I know how to deal with people and where to put them, and how to oversee a situation. If people start being silly and start arguing then I just micro-manage them and make sure they're doing what they're supposed to.

Everybody in this series seems to be shunning teamwork and concentrating on covering their arses instead. Would you agree?

Yeah! God yeah! People will say to you, "I like your shoes", but really they're thinking "I hope you break your heel, fall flat on your face, and then you can't come into the boardroom later because I hate you". It is literally that bad. You always have that in the back of your mind. Before the boardroom, everyone's all "You're my best mate, I love you, you were amazing, you were great, no you were great". And in the boardroom it's curtains, mate! It all falls apart. "I hate you, it was your fault, no it was your fault, you shouldn't have done this…" It's an absolute joke. But I think it just shows that this year's candidates are a lot more driven, a lot more self-centred and a lot more focused. And that makes a better show.

Did you feel that you had to play a part in all that?

No. I consciously chose not to. I decided to be friends with everyone, do my job, keep the team happy, not be argumentative, and not misrepresent who I am.
