Interview: Lindi Mngaza

What went wrong on this week's task?

I think the exclusivity thing was the biggest faux pas. Obviously I was second in command for the sales, but the exclusivity idea came out of Jen's mouth. She offered exclusivity, and I didn't feel comfortable exercising my authority in front of a customer, and undermining her.

In hindsight I probably should have done that, and I did agree to do the same with the chain of the pubs. But it was for only three months, and at the time, last thing in the day, I thought it was a reasonable decision. Had we not done those two exclusive deals, we potentially would have failed more than one of the tasks.

Were you taking your cue from Jennifer with regard to the exclusive deals?

God no. In the pub deal, if you remember correctly, the guy asked for an exclusive deal for three months. I went for it. Any salesperson would have gone for it. In the cinema, they didn't ask for exclusivity - Jennifer offered it without asking.

Did you think you'd be fired?

In the boardroom, with the three of us in the firing line, I was extremely confident that I wouldn't be going anywhere. I hadn't been project manager yet, and they hadn't seen my wide range of amazing skills. And it was just a shame. I genuinely thought one of Lucinda or Jennifer would be going, but it was me.
