Interview: Jennifer Maguire and Jenny Celerier
Did you really have no idea about the difference between Kosher and Halal meats?
Jennifer: Well, nobody did. I didn't, Claire didn't. Alex didn't. Michael, Jewish boy, certainly didn't. Nobody did. And it was just a ridiculous mistake. We all kind-of knew what 'Kosher' meant, but we didn't know the exact terminology. And this was highlighted when Jenny and Michael had to go and get it, but I certainly didn't know.
Michael was accused of playing the "Jewish card" by saying that he's a good Jewish boy on his CV. When confronted, he said that he's half-Jewish. What did you make of it all?
Jenny: Dirty bastard! That's such a dirty trick. And I think that he should really have been punished the fact that he's lying, basically, on his CV. I got punished by being fired for trying to bribe someone in a culture where it's very often part of the bartering process, and he lied on his CV, telling Sir Alan that he's a good Jewish boy to gain an advantage. And there was no punishment whatsoever, just a pat on the back, and a "You remind me of me when I was younger".
Jennifer: Very odd. A bit disappointing as it was a bit of a contradiction. But [Sir Alan] makes the rules, and it's his game, and he obviously sees something in Michael. So we'll see what happens.
Do you think you should have been fired?
Jenny: I think that I should have been fired. It was a bad task for me, but I was definitely not going to go out without a bloody good fight. I was shouting and screaming because I didn't want to go. I was there for the job.
And what about you, Jennifer? After Jenny was fired, did you think that you'd be off back to the house?
Jennifer: Oh, no! I definitely knew something else was in the pipeline. But I think he was just trying to even out the numbers, wasn't he? Let's get rid of two of them, make it all even. But it was fair for him to fire me after what I did on the task. I made some ridiculous decisions. But he totally should have fired Michael as well; he should have fired three people.
You even said to Sir Alan that he should fire you if he liked having cheats and liars (such as Michael) working at his company. But did you really think he'd take you up on the offer?
Jennifer: No! I thought I was onto a winner. But that's what I genuinely felt. I was a bit disappointed about it, and that's why I was furious when I was in the cab.
