That Mitchell and Webb Interview, part three

Do you regret doing the Apple campaign? A lot of people didn't seem to like it.

M: I don't regret it at all. I was just surprised that anyone had a problem with it. Comedians have always done adverts; it's a good campaign... I don't know why people were angry.

Were they angry?

M: I think some people were. I hope that most people were absolutely indifferent, which is kind-of the reaction I expected, but there were certainly some people who got on their high horse about it and I don't know why. It's over now but I'd do exactly the same thing again, and I'd be happy to explain the reasons to the angry people.

In Bill Bailey's new show, he does a routine about how he was approached by Asda for their latest campaign, and how he refused to "sell out" to them. Have you been approached for anything like that?

M: Well we're exclusive to Apple so we're not approached for anything like that at the moment. It's totally Bill Bailey's decision. A lot of people did do that, and I don't think Ian Wright and Victoria Wood and Paul Whitehouse are all c***s. But if Bill Bailey does that's his own business, although I don't think he does either. Some people have moral objections to advertising, and they are totally coherent, but it's a minority view and I don't hold it myself.

So we won't get to see you working on the cheese counter in little hats?

M: No. Although I totally reserve the right to.
