Tony Gordon plots Corrie domination

Coronation Street viewers will be aware that Tony Gordon currently seems to have set his heart on Weatherfield domination.

But it seems we've still to see the full extent of his deviousness.

Actor Gray O'Brien admits he's not quite sure how the public will react when his character begins plotting in earnest.

He told Inside Soap: "I'm not quite sure what it's going to be like walking down the street as Tony's actions get more sinister.

"I might get attacked by old ladies with handbags, so I'll have to watch out."

So far, soap fans have seen Tony persuade Rita to sell him The Kabin, but he'll have less luck when he tries to convince Kevin to give up the garage.

The factory owner isn't a man who's used to taking no for an answer, so he'll try to sweet talk Sally into having a word with her husband - and when that doesn't work, he'll turn his attention to the Websters' teenage daughter Rosie.

O'Brien joined the cast of Corrie last year, but he was already a familiar face to soap watchers.

He'd spent two years in Casualty as Richard McCaig and played Billy Davies in River City. His other credits include Peak Practice and the 2007 Doctor Who Christmas special.

However, he admits he was still unprepared for the level of recognition he gets for being part of Britain's longest-running serial, saying: "Doing Coronation Street means you could be in someone's living room up to five times a week, and viewers really do feel as though they know you."
