Soap veteran Rupert Hill is much in demand at the moment.

He has finished filming a four-part helping of The Bill, and is now preparing for a new theatre role in Once Upon A Time in Wigan, which premieres at The Octagon Theatre, Bolton next month.

However, he found a few minutes to reflect on his most famous TV alter ego, Corrie's Jamie Baldwin.

Jamie and Violet (played by Hill's real life girlfriend Jenny Platt) were two of Corrie's best-loved characters. Would Rupert like to return to Weatherfield in the future?

"I'm hoping that I don't, because I've done my stint there and I really enjoyed it. I had a cracking time and I'm looking forward to doing some different things, but obviously I never say never."

What are his favourite memories of life in Weatherfield?

"Just the people really, and also just being in Manchester. I've made some really, really good friends up there, and being in Manchester was great for me because it's a really big musical town for bands; my group (the Yellow Dog Band) are all from Manchester. I still live there now so I just love it."

Hill honed his craft in Doctors and Holby City before joining the cast of Family Affairs in 2002. He stayed with Five's defunct soap for two years and garnered two nominations for Sexiest Male at the British Soap Awards before being snapped up for the role of Corrie's Jamie.

Having been a success in one of Blighty's best-loved serials, would he like to follow the likes of ex-Corrie star Matthew Marsden (aka Chris Collins) and try his hand in Hollywood? "Yeah, that wouldn't be a kick in the teeth," he smiles. "That'd be all right."

Rupert Hill guest stars in The Bill in July.
