The Simpsons: the sequel

(BANG) - Matt Groening has confirmed there will be a second 'Simpsons' movie.

The creator was reportedly delighted by the success of the first movie, which took $500 million at the box office last year, and so is planning to make a sequel.

However, he admits fans shouldn't expect another big screen outing anytime soon.

Speaking at the Television Critics Association tour, he said: "It will happen at some point, but I have no idea when.

"The first one took us four years - mainly because we don't like to work any harder than we usually do. We'll get to it, I'm sure."

Last year's 'The Simpsons Movie' was released in conjunction with the 20th anniversary of the hit animated US comedy show.

Since it began, the show has picked up numerous awards and accolades, including 23 wins at the Emmy Awards and the honour of being named Best TV Show of the 20th Century by Time magazine.
