Trial of Samantha Morton harassment accused nears its conclusion

The trial of a man accused of stalking Oscar-nominated actress Samantha Morton is expected to be nearing a conclusion.

Noel Watts, 42, from Clifton, Nottingham, is due to appear before Westminster magistrates for the last scheduled day of his trial. He denied two charges of harassment last week.

The court heard 30-year-old Miss Morton installed security cameras at her home after being bombarded with letters and phone calls.

The "petrified" Minority Report star told magistrates that she met Watts at a homeless shelter when she was 13.

Miss Morton said Watts first wrote to her in 2004 - more than a decade after she last saw him.

The letter made her feel "very frightened" because "this person was very angry with me for not being in contact", she said.

Marc Robinson, prosecuting, said Watts also sent a barrage of texts to Miss Morton's agent, as well as other "angry" letters and phone calls directly to Miss Morton.

"The subject of the texts, although not directly threatening, were very emotional and tended towards the suggestion that Mr Watts was in love with Miss Morton - something which is not borne out by the facts, is certainly not reciprocated and not brought on by any of her actions," he told the court during last week's hearing.

Watts is expected to represent himself.
